Investigating the probe-tip influence on imaging using scanning near-field optical microscopy

نویسندگان

چکیده

The influence of the near-field probe-tip on a model sample consisting one-dimensional apertures is investigated using scanning optical microscopy (SNOM). We use finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations combined with SNOM scans to show that has rather profound effect shape measured transmission intensity profiles. By taking into account perturbations introduced by probe, our newly developed FDTD facilitates quantitative analysis data and provides new insights near-surface, subwavelength interactions.

Power Efficiency of Tapered Probe and It Influence on Resolution in Scanning Near-field Optical Microscopy

Novel optical techniques such as near-field come in a study of local properties of transparent or opaque microscopic structures such as optical waveguides, optoelectronic integrated circuits, photonic crystals, semiconductor interfaces, nanostructured systems. To control a light-matter interaction at nanometer distance, structures guiding electromagnetic energy with lateral mode confinement bel...

Scanning near-field optical microscopy.

An average human eye can see details down to 0,07 mm in size. The ability to see smaller details of the matter is correlated with the development of the science and the comprehension of the nature. Today's science needs eyes for the nano-world. Examples are easily found in biology and medical sciences. There is a great need to determine shape, size, chemical composition, molecular structure and...

An overview of scanning near-field optical microscopy in characterization of nano-materials

Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy (SNOM) is a member of scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) family which enables nanostructure investigation of the surfaces on a wide range of materials. In fact, SNOM combines the SPM technology to the optical microscopy and in this way provide a powerful tool to study nano-structures with very high spatial resolution. In this paper, a qualified overview of ...

Tip-enhanced near-field optical microscopy.

Spectroscopic methods with high spatial resolution are essential for understanding the physical and chemical properties of nanoscale materials, including quantum structures and biological surfaces. An optical technique is reviewed that relies on the enhanced electric fields in the proximity of a sharp, laser-irradiated metal tip. These fields are utilized for spatially confined probing of vario...

Near-field scanning optical microscopy using polymethylmethacrylate optical fiber probes.

We report the first use of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) optical fiber-made probes for scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM). The sharp tips were prepared by chemical etching of the fibers in ethyl acetate, and the probes were prepared by proper gluing of sharpened fibers onto the tuning fork in the conditions of the double resonance (working frequency of a tuning fork coincides with th...
